Om Sri Swamiye- Saranam Ayyappa
Persons who take ayyappa swamy diksha should compulsorily wear only black clothes. There is a reason for this. Swamy has given word to shani deva that all his devotees will wear the black color dress which is a favorite color of shani deva. The following conversation between swamy and shani deva in the above video is given below.
Swamy: O Shani! Why are you troubling the humans for seven years.
Shani: That is my dharma (duty) swamy.
Swamy: Is troubling humans also a dharma(duty).
Shani: For Trimurthi's- Srusti(generation),stithi(operation),laya(destruction) are dharamas, for yama taking the lives of living beings is dharma, what can I say if you ask "is it dharma(right) in the taking lives as part of laya(destruction) process"
Swamy: What will happen if you dont perform your dharma (duty)
Shani: Shrusti dharma will become topsy turvy.
Swamy: shrusti dharma should not become troubling of humans. Shrusti has been designed and created for the purpose of giving sukha(comforts), santosha(happiness), ananda(bliss), utsava(energetic) for beings.
Shani: Vidhata (creator or lord brahma) is writing the destiny of living beings based on their evil/good actions in their various births. so it is pre-destined that they should undergo all these troubles or sufferings, as a result of their previous evil actions.
Swamy: So the inner meaning of your troubling the humans is that they should undergo these sufferings as a result of their previous evil actions.
Shani: Otherwise what is the necessity or interest or benefit to me in this duty swamy.
Swamy: O Shani! My devotees will undergo all those sufferings in 41 days, which usually you make them suffer within the span of 7 years.
Shani: Oh Swamy What can they undergo in just 41 days, the troubles which I make them to undergo are huge in number. I trouble people who eat lavishly, because of which they dont get proper food at the right time and get suffered because of hunger.
Swamy: My devotees will eat only once a day that too eat only satwik food(food that is very normal without any spices etc).
Shani: I make people who sleep on greatest of beds and mattresses to sleep on hard wooden planks and ordinary beds.
swamy: they will leave all the comforts and sleep on bare floor without any mats/beds/mattresses.
Shani: I will make people to forget all the scents/freshners/fragrant oils/ hot water showers etc used during baths and make them shiver.
Swamy: My devotees will instead of scented hot showers will do cold water bath twice a day during sunrise and sunset.
shani: I will make humans to suffer so that they wont have a proper dress to wear, forget about the care taking of their hair, nails, doesnt have proper footwear to wear, will come to such a down stage where he will feel shy and inconvienient to tell about himself and roam in despair.
Swamy: Your favorite color is black. My devotees wearing black clothes, leaving foot wear (with bare foot), forgetting the care taking of their nails and hair, by wearing mala and taking diksha, forgetting their own identity are called as swamy's. Whatever the sufferings you told, they will undergo those sufferings as part of rules of diksha with devotion and happiness.
Are you happy!.
shani: Swamy! one more important thing. By the mere glance of my vision, those couples who are happy and in love will become disinterested in each other.
Swamy: My devotees will follow the brahmacharya, and by chanting swamiye saranam ayyappa, they travel by walk in the dense forests and come for my darshan. You should never trouble such devotees of mine. you should always bestow them with all the good things in life. This is my order.
Shani: you are an avatar (embodiment) of dharma. To follow your order is my principle duty.
Thus those devotees who are taking ayyappa swamy diksha should always wear only black dress during their diksha time, but not any other color.
Great , In 41 days Facing all Troubles of life. feeling the different aspects of life. its really a wonderful custom.

ReplyDeleteWhy swamys wear kandava?
ReplyDeleteNamaskaram! Om Guru Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa!
DeleteAccording to the tradition, when doing puja activities, one should wear dhoti and alongwith there will be an upavastram or kanduva. Apart from that, as swamy's will not use any other towel, this kanduva helps them as towel. Also guruswamy's wear orange color kanduva, this helps kanne swamy's and other younger swamys to recognise guruswamys during sabari yatra when they want to adjust their irumudi, where kanne swamy and younger swamy doesnt have permission to put down or pick irumudi.
Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa!
Also I would like to add a point, there are some people who might wear black(like black shirt & black pant), so that we should not mistake them as swamy, if a person is wearing black shirt & black pant & also has kandava, it means he is definately wearning our Lord Ayyappa swamy mala. Please correct if I am wrong Guruswamy.
ReplyDeleteSwamiye Saranam Ayyappa,
ReplyDelete1 very very important question. I see some swamies having our Lord Ayyappa idol which we get in Ayyappa shops in sabarimala. Can I also buy a Ayyappa idol and bring to my home. When I feel like doing puja, I can do and when I dont do puja, I can cover the idol with cloth & safely put in some safe place?
Please answer.
Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa
you can bring the idol which is shorter than your index finger. But if you want to bring a big idol and keep it in your pooja mandir you have to do daily pooja and mahanivedyam... orelse you have to keep it in rice bag, atleast half of the idol should be filled with rice.
Deletewhy to follow brahmacharyam......
ReplyDeleteOm Guru Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa
DeleteIn simple terms to understand, to protect our energy or life force and to channelize it towards our spiritual upliftment or spiritual progress, not to drain out our energy so that we lose the focus and drift way from our goal.
To do any activity, we require not only physical energy but mental energy also. If we are mentally strong, then physically we can achieve any thing. Physically one may do some sort of excercise, but mentally one needs some sort of discipline to have the mental strength and brahmacharya gives that sort of mental discipline and strength to one. Because, the one who has mastered and conquered his mind can conquer the whole world. so it has been customary in any of the deekshas to follow brahmacharya (can be for male/female).
for example if a big tank of water is blown out, water may move in any direction because there is no proper guidance or channelisation for it. If only some canal or some path is created for the water, then it flows along that path only and can be used for many lot of constructive activities( like drinking, farming etc) . Similarly the energy which is there is human if let out just like that will be wasted without any proper usage, rather if it can be channelized can be used for the well being of the world and for many constructive activities which can benefit mankind. So the first step in this direction is to follow brahmacharya.
Hope by the grace of swamy you understand this. I pray for you and your family. May swamy shower his blessings on you all.
Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa.
What sholud i do the black dress and maala after 41 days vratham completes. If i dont wear maala next year.because of family problems.. what i have to do,can i keep dress & maala in home or should i return it to Guru swamy.
ReplyDeletePlz reply me as soon as....
Om Guruswamiye Saranam Ayyappa
DeleteIf you intent not to wear maala next year due to various constraints. You can put the maala on a tree in any temple. You can donate your dress to some poor or you can put it in any flowing water like river. But if you have any plans may be next or next year, then you can retain them in a proper place, and you can use them for that year deeksha. But any how check with your guruswamy once and act according to his instructions, whatever he says, simply follow them.
I pray swamy for you and your family. May swamy shower his blessings on you all.

1. The 41 days of viratham stats from taking holy mala to going to Ghee abhisekam in sabari ayyan temple?
2. Which ayyapa devotees will wear which color such as black, blue, green and orange.
3. Can we keep ayyapa photos in same pooja room after return from Sabari Mala.
4. Some people saying about whcih can wear and which cannot be for mainly people working corporate
1. Belt 2. Shoe
And about coconut oil to head, araigan kayiru in hip.
5. Lastly how to follow viradha for small kids. Advice what age they can take dheeksha.
Thanks
Alagar
Om Guru Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa!
DeleteThe 41 days viratham starts from taking holy mala and after which you can have irumudi and then start for sabari yatra where you can have the divine darshan of lord. If time is constraint or any other factor, swamy's take permission from their guruswamy to have it as 41 days inclusive of sabari yatra, but actually it is otherwise.
As swamy had given word to shani deva, all the swamys should only wear black, but usually guruswamy's wear either blue or orange to indicate that they are guruswamy so that junior swamy's can ask them questions and clarify their doubts; as well during sabari yatra kanne swamy's are not supposed to put down or take up irumudi by themselves, so seeing the dress, they can request a guruswamy to help them in putting down or taking up their irumudi.
Yes you can put ayyappa photos in same pooja room after return from sabarimala, but take care that you maintain the sanctity of the puja room.
According to the rule one should not wear belt, shoes etc. But their job is their source of income to sustain themselves and their family; as well keeping in view the larger goal of tatwamasi, and their love and devotion towards swamy; guruswamy's generally allow or give some relaxation because they cannot afford to lose their job because of the deeksha. Deeksha should make you strong and a better person but not trouble you. Remember rules are for humans, but not humans for rules. And this doesnt mean that every one can take advantage and ignore this. This kind of exemptions are only for those, where they donot have any other way to follow the deeksha rules, but they are sincerely devoted to swamy and take deeksha and visit sabarimala.
Swamys are not supposed to apply oil to their head. You can have araigan kayiru in hip.
Until and unless you have some promise to the lord, that you will bring the child to sabarimala, it is better not to trouble the child or force the deeksha onto a child; one should allow him to take deeksha when he gets proper awareness. And if the child is really able to understand and willingly comes, then its ok, otherwise let him have it only after he is able to understand and enjoy the deeksha rather than being forced. That is the reason a child should get permission from his mother to take up deeksha, Because mother is the right judge in giving permission to her kids.
Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa!
